Webternship Program (CHIP) AHEC places students in 8-week-long internships throughout the state. In summer 2016, 83 students worked at 61 public health departments and other agencies. These internships yield three-fold benefits: 1) completed projects that improve health in the local community, 2) the local WebArea Health Education Centers (AHEC) AHEC programs were developed by Congress in 1971 to recruit, train and retain health professionals committed to underserved populations. The AHEC program helps bring the resources of academic medicine to address local community health needs.
